Michael Toft
Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP)
Registered Clinical Counsellor
Michael holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology Degree from Yorkville University and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
Michael strives to listen empathically to clients and encourage them to share the story they bring to counselling. By listening and creating space, Michael ensures that clients can feel heard and move forward with therapy in a way aligned with their beliefs and values.
Recognizing that every person has a unique set of skills, strengths and experiences, Michael uses a culturally-sensitive, curious, and collaborative approach in therapy. With training in family systems theory, he prioritizes the role relationships play in clients’ lives on the level of the family and society. He also recognises the importance of clients’ internal and external resources to facilitate change and strives to bring them to the forefront wherever possible.
Michael primarily uses family systems, person-centred, existential theory as well as solution-focused therapy strategies, taking an integrative approach to meet clients’ needs. He has worked with a diverse range of adult clients, both individually and as couples, working with them to help them address a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem, relationship issues, conflict resolution, grief and loss, identity, and sexuality.
