Master of Education (MEd) in Counselling Psychology
Registered Clinical Counsellor
As a mental health professional, Josh holds a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. Outside of his practice at Jericho Counselling, Josh works at a local non-profit organization, managing low-barrier mental health services to people in crisis. In addition, Josh also works in clinical research studies at Simon Fraser University.
As a therapist, Josh strives to maintain a trauma-informed, intersectional, and holistic approach to counselling which focuses on the client relationship, working with strengths, and creating a safe and non-judgmental space. Josh operates within a Humanist framework, often pulling from Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Existential modalities to best suit his clients. Josh is comfortable working with clients who are challenged by issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, communication struggles, anger management, life transition issues, as well as gender or sexual orientation.
As a fellow human, Josh is constantly humbled by the resilience of the people he meets. Life is hard and it is no wonder why we all struggle at certain points in our lives. Therapy is absolutely not a silver-bullet. It can be difficult, sometimes more difficult than remaining in the status quo, yet Josh truly believe it is a unique space in which people can heal and grow from the physical, mental, relational, emotional, and existential mire we all can find ourselves in. He is absolutely ready and willing to put on some gumboots and overalls and wade through with you, as some journeys are easier with someone walking beside you.
