Graduate Intern Counsellor
Chelsea is in her final year of the Master of Counselling program at City University. She is a student member of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Upon completion of her education, Chelsea will be pursuing a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation with the BCACC.
Chelsea is dedicated to creating a warm and welcoming environment where clients feel seen, heard, and safe. She believes that within this therapeutic space, clients can openly explore their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours without fear of judgement. Chelsea also recognizes the importance of cultural sensitivity and strives to acknowledge and honor the uniqueness of every person. As such, she tailors her approaches to meet the unique needs and goals of each client.
Her counselling approach is rooted in principles of ethics, trauma-informed care, collaboration, and client-centered practices. Chelsea believes that clients are the experts of their lives, possessing skills and strengths to overcome challenges that may be difficult to tap into when life feels overwhelming. Her approach also involves helping clients unearth their inner strengths and address their goals, during their journey towards leading a more fulfilling and authentic life. In addition, Chelsea utilizes Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused therapy, and mindfulness interventions in her work with clients. She believes that cultivating self-compassion can be a valuable and transformative process for clients.
Chelsea has worked as a victim support worker providing emotional support and practical assistance to survivors of trauma and their families. She also has experience providing crisis intervention support, both in-person and by phone. Chelsea welcomes opportunities to work with clients who may be struggling with issues related to grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, panic, depression, stress management, or intimate partner and family violence, and is open to supporting clients through a variety of other challenges as well.
