Bachelor of Education Degree (BEd)
Graduate Intern Counsellor
Steven holds a Bachelor of Education degree and is currently completing his Master of School Counselling at City University. He has spent his recent years working as a teacher and has found connecting with students from many backgrounds and differing needs to be foundational in his career growth. These experiences gradually influenced Steven to pursue further education in counselling and fostered his belief that the therapeutic relationship is foundational for healing and growth.
By assisting young people, and their families, with the challenges they have faced, Steven has experienced the value that a caring professional can bring into the lives of those with whom he has worked. His years in teaching helped him recognize the importance of mental wellness in order for individuals to engage in lives that are both meaningful and healthy.
Steven believes that it is imperative to empower individuals by acknowledging their struggles, exploring their strengths, while also discovering and building upon their resiliencies. He recognizes that the fundamental basis for a counselling relationship is an authentic, unbiased, confidential, and collaborative approach that seeks to understand the uniqueness of each client. By honouring the individuality of each client, Steven utilizes a blend of Attachment-Based Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Theory (CBT), Narrative approaches, Solution-Focused, and Mindfulness techniques. Steven is most comfortable supporting clients who are struggling with communication skills, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, anger management, career issues, grief and loss, and life transitions.
