Dr. Muge Celik Orucu holds a PhD in Counselling Psychology, is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and has been working as a Clinical Counsellor for more than 20 years. She also has university teaching experience at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Muge has publications in scholarly journals, and book chapters, and as well as being a sought-after presenter at conferences. As a visiting scholar at Ohio State University Anxiety and Stress Disorder Clinic with Dr. Brad Schmidt, and a visiting professor at McGill University Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology with Assistant Professor, Dr. Chiaki Konishi, Muge has established herself as a lifelong learning and contributor to the profession.
Muge believes that seeking counselling is a courageous step towards personal growth. From that perspective, she engages collaboratively and empathically with clients to help bolster their self-awareness and work on making positive, goal-directed changes in their lives. Muge is passionate about creating a comfortable and casual space for people of all ages and backgrounds. She defines her role as helping clients feel safe, supported, and free to express feelings, process difficult experiences, gain insight, explore options, and learn new skills. Often described by clients and colleagues as warm, and emotionally present, Muge strives to find just the right pace for the work she does with each client she meets.
Muge uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing techniques in her work. She has experience with Adult and Youth clients, as well as couples and families. She uses the tools of collaboration and trust to address the challenges of anxiety, depression, stress management, relationship difficulties, self-esteem, immigrant settlement, grief and loss, and all types of life transitions.
Muge provides services in English and Turkish.
Vancouver Counsellor Muge Celik Orucu is available for counselling appointments on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, and is NOT accepting new referrals.
