Master of Arts (MA) in Counselling Psychology
Canadian Certified Counsellor
Azi Mohammadian is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and holds a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Adler University. With a background as a Crisis Counsellor, Mental Health support worker, and Special Needs Teacher, Azi brings a breadth of knowledge and experience to her client work.
Being passionate about helping people is what comes through when you first meet Azi. You can tell that she has found her true calling as a professional and there are no doubts that Azi truly experiences counselling as a most rewarding endeavor. Since moving to Canada from Iran as a teenager, Azi has been aware of what it is like to be welcomed to a new country and the ups and downs that can come with such a transition. This deep connection to her own experience of culture and identity has been an important ingredient in Azi’s development as a person and also as a counsellor. As a result, she believes in the value of multicultural counselling and uses this awareness and understanding as she develops culturally appropriate techniques for each of her clients.
Azi takes a Humanistic approach to counselling and she believes that every human has the capacity to grow and reach their potentials through self-exploration and reflection. She works with clients from a place of empathy and aims to develop a safe environment for her clients so they feel comfortable to share with her their worries and concerns. Azi also strives to build an egalitarian relationship with her clients and to work with them collaboratively. A strong belief that clients are the experts in their own lives informs much of Azi’s early work with clients, as she works to first understand who the client is and what their perspective is on their current challenges and struggles, before collaborating to build individualized solutions. Azi practices from an integrated perspective, using techniques from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), as well as Solution Focused Therapy.
Azi is experienced with wide range of clients including individuals, teenagers, and families. She is comfortable working with clients who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, family crisis, relationship issues, life transitions, cultural identity, self-esteem, conflict resolution, family conflict, and grief and loss, and other problems.
Azi provides counselling services in English and Farsi.
